Tamil in Chidambaram

There was recent controversy regarding usage of Tamil in Chidambaram temple.

Apparently, one of the devotees was stopped from singing Thevaram / Thiruvasagam (Tamil songs) in Chidambaram temple. This caused a furore among Tamil loving people.

The truth is Chidambaram is one of the rare temples, where Thevaram (Appar, Sundarar, Thiru Gnaana Sambandhar) and Thiruvasagam are chanted before Deepa Arathi during all the poojas conducted six times a day!

It appears that in the main shrine, only the procedures and aagamas approved by Sri Patanjali are chanted in the next level (prahaaram), all the Tamil Murais are chanted. This person, who complained, had moved to the inner shrine and chanted The Thirumurais. He was asked to chant it from the next prahaaram. This was intentionally mis-represented as Tamil being disrespected in Sri Nataraja temple in Chidambaram.

We got queries about this, and hence we added this post to dispel any doubts of any disrespect to Tamil in Chidambaram Temple.
